"Happiness. Yellow is happiness. All great and beautiful things are yellow… the sun, daffodils and cheese! So yeah,
yellow is the colour embodiment of happiness!"
Interview with model Madame Mae Vis
Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into modelling?
Hi I'm Mae! AKA Madame Mae Vis!
I'm a hopeful suicide girl, but also work within all spectrums of the industry. I dabble in fashion, glamour, alternative, pinup, promo and well, pretty much anything goes! I first got in front of a camera when I was fifteen, my uncle is a photographer and he got me interested in the world of fashion and modelling.
Many years later in my mid twenties, I got together with my husband Sam Taylor, AKA Sam Taylor Studios. We went to school together initially but hooked up to do a pinup shoot whilst Sam was studying his degree in Photojournalism, romance soon blossomed and now were a dynamic duo shooting for clothing brands and producing sets for my page on Suicide Girls! We have a beautiful baby boy who's nearly two now. I'm that lucky model who's mister doesn't mind whatever she shoots because he's a photographer too and loves and respects what I do.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Hmmmm…. There's such a thing as spare time?!... I love snuggling up with my boy with a good old Disney film and munchables.
We launched in April 2015, so far, what do you think of our brand?
So far so good! You guys rock! I'm loving everything you guys have created so far and I'm especially a fan of the fact that 10% of every sale goes to charity.
What is your favourite item of clothing in your closet right now?
Right now I'm loving little cropped crochet tops. I've a few already but ill probably end up with more! I love the nostalgic feel of them, how they lend themselves to the best time periods of all such as the sixties and seventies. Both rocked for fashion in my book. Having said that though, my wardrobe is a beautiful Technicolor of all ages, I own quite a bit of true vintage beauties now including my wedding dress from the swinging sixties!
Is there a photographer or model you would really like to work with?
Argh so many greats out there! I'm a huge fan of both Marc Hayden and Harris Nukem, I've been a follower of both their work for quite some time now. Every image is just as fresh and beautiful as the first work I ever came across from both photographers. In terms of models, I have a huge woman crush for Becky Holt, I'm gutted she's retiring!
On a night out with your friends, you wind up in a karaoke bar. What song do you sing and why?
I'm a sucker for cheese! In particular Jermaine Stewart, he's definitely up there as one of my all time faves! I'd probably have to say his 'We don't have to take our clothes off'. It used to be my going out song and I have played it to death over the years, I even have it on vinyl haha!
What was the first album you bought?...No fibs now ;)
Chocolate Starfish by Limp Bizkit, Hail Nu metal! I was only twelve like, so I got my mates mum to pay for it!
What pop song is your guilty pleasure? (go on...we won't tell)
Again Jermaine Stewarts we don't have to take our clothes off but also! I love Prince…. Which I guess isn't too bad eh? I've loves Prince's Kiss ever since I was a little girl, I loved that scene in the film Pretty woman where she's singing in the bathtub… that's meeeee!
Describe you perfect night in?
When I'm not modelling or being covered in Heinz beanz I pretty much live in the bath! So for me a bottle of wine in the tub with nibbles and good tunes is a must!
Who inspires and why?
Difficult one! I'm inspired by so many people but in particular Bettie Page and Audrey Hepburn. Those two ladies not only had class but were beautiful on the outside as well as from within.
Besides world domination, what are your plans for the future?
I know that I cant model forever and that age comes to us all no matter what we do so I'm wanting to open up my own studio and pick a camera back up. I used to do photography before I took my modelling seriously, it gained me a fine art degree! So yeah, studio please!
If you had to pic a favourite movie, what would it be and why?
My favourite film ever is Withnail and I. I know that film inside out and back to front, Its hard to pick just one single scene simply because every single one of them is so memorable and brilliant!
Favourite character from a comic book or graphic novel?
I love big Hero 6! My little boy watches it like three times a day sometimes even more, safe to say it's a firm fave in our house, who wouldn't want a Baymax?! I know I do!
You can give one object (the same object) to everyone in the world. What is it, and why?
Do hugs count? I believe that every living being deserves to feel loved no matter what!
What would you do if you were the one survivor in a plane crash?
Id definitely turn into the female equivalent of Captain Jack Sparrow, pass the rum.
Describe the colour yellow to somebody who is blind.
Happiness. Yellow is happiness. All great and beautiful things are yellow… the sun, daffodils and cheese! So yeah, yellow is the colour embodiment of happiness!
Where can we see more of you and your work?
